Did he really say that?
by Clay Staggs
This according to the New York Times:
Mr. Obama has told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of China. As one official put it, â??No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintaoâ??s words in Tahrir Square.â?
It is no secret that I am not a political supporter of the president’s. As such, I have had people ask me whether I believe that he is a socialist or communist. I have generally answered no to those questions, preferring instead to think of him more in the European social-democrat mold.
Unless this quote is retracted or disavowed, I may have to reconsider my answer to that question. This is, to my mind, truly appalling. It is no doubt true that Mr. Hu gets no flak from political opponents. But that’s because he sends them to jail or worse. Honestly, does Obama not consider that fact before making such statements?
And on top of that, it’s whiney. Boo-hoo. Poor leader of the free world having his words scrutinized by those seeking liberation from a dictator.
Yeesh.
