Books

Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008)

by Jeff Miller

One of the most provocative and interesting writers of the 20th century has left us.

Solzhenitsyn’s exposure of the USSR and criticism of the West’s moral bankruptcy were singularly incredible.

George Grant has an excellent post on the man at his blog.

There is also an interesting article here..

If you have time, one of his most interesting books is a memoir of his literary work called The Oak & the Calf. I’m not sure it’s still in print, I listened to it on Audible last year and found it to be extremely intriguing.

Solzhenitsyn was a great writer and a great Christian witness. I often think of “A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch”, how powerful it was and the great discussions the Riverwood Book Group had about it.

Solzhenitsyn was a great man and powerful writer whose works, most specifically the Gulag, helped me to banish some naive and wishful thinking about mankind as I was moving toward Christianity in a search for truth while becoming disenchanted with Eastern mysticism. I will always be grateful for his voice and his works.
