Faith and Science

In a Related Story…..

by Jeff Miller

We have talked a bit about Richard Dawkins- author of The God Delusion and Oxford Professor. His book came up several times during the Sunday School sessions on faith & science. Wednesday night at the Alys Stephens Center in B’ham, he and John Lennox (fellow Oxford prof- mathematician and chaplain) will be having a debate concerning such things as the existence of God. It will be broadcast live on the local Moody (88.9) radio station from 7-9 pm.

It has become a rare opportunity to have an actual debate of this kind in a world where truth has become tantamount to opinion and ideas have no significant consequence. Should be interesting.

Jeff, I am glad that you posted this. I did not see your post until just now. But, I just happened to pick up the second half of the broadcast as I was driving home tonight. It was fascinating! I doubt if Mr. Dawkins had ever debated anyone as eloquent as John Lenox. The commentators said that the debate would not be archived on the internet but would be available as a DVD and CD from www.fixed-point.org. The website appears to have crashed tonight. But, hopefully it will be back up tomorrow. It would be worth picking up and watching as a group in some forum.

Glad you enjoyed it. I, too, thought it was fascinating. I do wish there had been more time for several of the points, but that is an inherent problem in debate, I suppose.

The other website of people involved in making this happen is www.aproundtable.org . you might want to check it out at some point.

I had thought that the DVD might be worth viewing in a group as well. Food for thought.
